October 23rd

Reading & Writing: This week our main focus was looking at how authors make the whole story stick together. We enjoyed several great books including Spookley the Square Pumpkin. We thought about how all of the parts came together to make a great story. We also discussed the importance of thinking about what lesson the author was trying to teach the reader.

This week we worked on a “kindness” writing to celebrate Unity Week. We wrote about ways we can show kindness to others. We also practiced writing a 5 sentence paragraph that included a topic sentence, 3 detail sentences, and a concluding sentence.

Social Studies: This week we discussed characteristics of good citizens. We also talked about the importance of rules while reading a book called What If Everyone. Learning about these topics will help us get ready for our Kids Voting activities which will take place next week.

Math: We have been working on skip counting, identifying arrays, repeated addition, and odd and even numbers. Next week we will take a test over chapter 2.
