October 2nd

Reading: This week our main focus was learning about key strategies for what to do when we get to a tricky word. We practiced using these strategies during two of our read alouds: The Crayon Box That Talked and Giraffes Can’t Dance. Please continue to encourage your child to read at home.

Writing: Our class has finished drafting our personal narrative. We have learned how to write a good introduction, several pages full of details, and a strong conclusion.

Math: Throughout chapter one we have been learning all about strategies to help solve addition and subtraction problems using numbers 1-20. Some of the strategies we worked on this week included using related facts, fact families, and solving two-step word problems.

Science: We constructed our dinosaur skeletons! The enthusiasm during this project was simply adorable! Everyone contributed by digging up dinosaur bones, working to try and assemble their own portion of the skeleton, and then helping to problem solve as I connected everyone’s pieces. Check out your child’s Seesaw page to see a picture of their finished products.
