October 8th

Reading:

We have enjoyed many great books while focusing on generating questions while we read. Some of the books we enjoyed included: Baloney, What Can We Do?, and Pinduli. We learned that good readers ask questions before, during, and after reading.

Social Studies:

We have been learning about how positive changes can be made by local governments. Town Hall meetings, bills, and laws were a few of the topics we took a closer look at. We also learned about how Rosa Parks helped to make a change to a law. Lastly, we learned about how the federal government is organized into three branches.

Math:

Lesson 4 has been all about solving reading and interpreting graphs. Bar graphs, picture graphs, and tally charts are what we focused on. Our class learned to look for key phrases like: How many more, How many fewer, and How many altogether. Then we used our strategies to create equations to find the answers.

Writing:

Our class has been working hard on writing our personal narratives. The students have become familiar with the process, and now they have been creating their own narratives independently while I conference with them about how to make their writing longer and stronger.
