These pictures tell a story of what we've have been up to this past week! We have had a lot of fun while learning!
Camping Theme

Science: Everyone was promoted from campers to camp counselors, and then they had the task to design an obstacle course and a canoe that really could float.

Reading: Bears visited our campsites! The students enjoyed reading to them, and we also enjoyed several great books including: A Camping Spree with Mr. McGhee and Scaredy Squirrel Goes Camping.

Writing: We wrote haiku poems about the great outdoors, and we also wrote an acrostic poem about camping.

Math: Check out the fun ways we reviewed subtraction and place value.

Donut Theme
Writing: After reading the book The Jelly Donut Difference, we wrote about ways we can sprinkle kindness to others. We also wrote cinquain poems about donuts, too.

Reading: We enjoyed some adorable books about donuts, and we continued to work in our book clubs.

Social Studies: We had a blast working at our donut shops!

Math: We practiced equal groups (repeated addition or multiplication) while serving donuts to our "customers."

Writing: Our published nonfiction books are finished, and they turned out great! They are currently displayed in our classroom, but be on the lookout for some of our favorite second grade writings to be going home soon. The students worked really hard, and they are so proud of their books.

Reading: Our book clubs are going great. Everyone is working so well together, and their book discussions are darling to listen to. I love everyone’s participation and their enthusiasm while reading with their book clubs!

Social Studies: We have been learning about economics. On Friday, we did a pretend shopping activity. It was really fun to see the students work within a budget and identify their needs and wants. This week we will continue to learn more about economics while participating in some junior achievement activities.

Math: Solid figures and plane shapes have been the focus of our recent math lessons. This week we will continue to learn more about faces, sides, and vertices.

Reading: This week we read the Pig the Pug series. We reviewed how to read with expression and clarifying vocabulary. The students also started meeting in their book clubs.

Writing: During writing, we continued to work on poetry. We wrote a sensory poem, an acrostic poem, and a couplet poem. We also spent some time working on a top secret special gift. :)

Math: This week we began our last math chapter which focuses on geometry. We practiced identifying plane shapes by comparing their attributes. So far we have learned about: triangles, circles, squares, rectangles, trapezoids, parallelograms, hexagons, and pentagons. Below you can find some pictures of a few students playing a strategy game called Sliders.

Science: Our animal habitat projects are coming along nicely, and we are planning to finish those projects up next week. Next week we will also begin our final social studies unit which is all about economics.
