August 23rd

We have had a great first week back at school!  This week has been spent getting to know each other and learning all about second grade. We have been learning our classroom, school, and technology rules. We have also had a lot of fun building our classroom community.

All About Me Bags were so much fun!

Reading: This week we have read many back to school books including This is the Teacher, All Are Welcome, and Listening Larry At School. We have used these books to discuss and learn about our second grade expectations and rules in and out of the classroom. 

We also used the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears to learn about choosing books that are not too hard or too easy, but instead Just Right. Then we shopped for books in our classroom Book Nook, and we started building our independent reading stamina.  

We enjoyed hearing the story called, Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse. Then we worked in teams to complete a S.T.E.M. activity where we had to design structures to help display Lilly's purse. We had a lot of fun testing out our final products.

Writing: In writing this week we wrote personal goals for second grade, and we reviewed: letter formation, capital letters, and end of sentence punctuation.  

Math: We completed a Math About Me activity and we played some partner games to get to know one another. We also practiced our addition math facts using our iPads.
