Field Trip: Botanical Gardens

Reading & Writing:

This week in reading we read passages with an economics theme.  We read a narrative called, “Bear and Goat Start a Business”, and an informational piece called “From Pine Tree to Cardboard”.  In the narrative passage we used illustrations and words to determine the story elements and analyze how the characters responded to challenges.  In our informational passage we annotated and explained the connection between the steps it takes to take a pine tree and make it into cardboard.

In writing, we began our multimedia writing projects.  Each student is working on making a project about an event that goes along with a personal narrative they wrote. The students will present their keynote presentation to the class.

Math:

This week we studied arrays.  We learned how to count the number of columns and rows in an array and make repeated addition sentences to match.  We also began learning about even and odd numbers.

Social Studies:

Our focus in social studies this week was our Market Day project.  Students have been put into groups to create a product to sell to our 5th grade buddies.  I have been really impressed with the creativity and quality of work!
